Well, he’s in Croatia with the Bishop’s head coach (who selected him to the cadet NT) as we speak, so….
Was prior National Team play under Ross not the reason Tyler Anderson was ineligible to play his senior year?

In OC Huntington Beach HS might give some of the big boys a run for their money.
In Ventura/ SB you are right Dos Pueblos is loaded with Freshmen through Seniors all contributing. They will be an Open Division team this year.
San Marcos lost seniors to graduation and losing Yonker was a hit…but they have some sneaky young talent.
Buena and Westlake lost a ton of Seniors but should still be Division 1 for playoffs.
Couple other public schools may make some middle division noise but nothing at the top end.
it was not for that reason
I think Bella Jurgenson had a similar situation playing for Brenda on the NT when she left Mater Dei. She had a 30 day sit out so maybe he has a sit out…idk.
Blake Hofley (also NT under Brenda) was sentenced to a year of JV at OLu after her transfer. I am curious what the difference in circumstances was. Maybe she had already been playing for Legacy.
I don’t think you’re allowed to play JV games if you have a sit out.
Porter Birdsall played JV for Foothill after he left JSerra.
You have to pick if offered the sit out period:
Either play sub varsity full year or
Wait and play varsity
There may be some differences between Southern Section and San Diego.
really? Why would any top player choose to play JV a full year v. taking a 30 day sit out and play Varsity?
Not all transfers are “top players” or varsity ready.
Right. I guess I was responding to Blake Hofley being relegated to all JV games. She is clearly a “Top Player”
Southern section must, indeed, have different rules than San Diego because here are the rulings and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this in the SDS. My reading is that Blake’s only option was JV and Bella did a 30-day SOP.
Had a friend’s son in SDS have to do a year sit-out despite vigorous appeals for transferring from a small private school to a D-1/2 local public school for an academic program. The sit-out was because the coach at the public school coached one of the B teams at the kids club. He hadn’t played for him as his primary coach but it didn’t matter to SDS. Knowing the player and family it felt excessive especially when I see all the football transfers but football doesn’t have the club scenarios I guess.
Who do u guys think is going to take it this year for southern section. Seems like it pretty up in the air and the top 6 teams can all beat each other on any given day. Cathedral is the clear power house but southern section I think could be anyone’s turn to win
Beckman and San Juan are potential top 10 Southern Section schools. Beckman had a top 3 freshmen class last year and, as far as I know, they are all returning this year. San Juan Hills returns most of the top players from its 2025 team, including goalie Frankie Lawkun, center defender/attacker Bruno Masa, attacker/center defender Owen Clark (2028), and center Liam Friedman (2028). Both schools will participate in the South Coast Tournament.
This is consistent with how SDS works in my experience (for families who don’t have counsel lined up before the transfer and don’t have the benefit of an AD at public school who’s willing to spend political capital for a sport not named football). I have handled appeals to CIF-State on exactly this issue (effectively turning a full year sit into SOP).
Almost a decade ago, we had an athlete at our public school (School B) who transferred in as a junior, having played three sports at School A (all three varsity level). His reason for transfer was parent divorce, with one parent remaining in School A district and one moving to School B. Tant pis! SOP for him and no interest in appealing (despite having a court order re custody and living arrangement clarifying that he was to live with custodial parent in School B district). Because no appeal, nothing further to discuss.
Blake Hofley was at Foothill as a freshman in 2024–25, and then transferred to Orange Lutheran for 2025–26.
Yep. I think we were just trying to sort through the different sit out consequences for different athletes in the various sections.
