None from Los Al that i have heard because they all played for Shore a year or two ago which makes a transfer next to impossible

Alistair Sterrett transferred from Mercer Island High School in Washington to The Bishopâs School. Sterrett, one of the two goalies on the Cadet National Team, will be a junior. He fills a need for Bishopâs, which could be a top 5 or 6 team this year.

and likely in need of high level experience so that Bishops can compete with the best teams in California.

Does this not qualify as an âathletically motivated transferâ per CIF rules? Should be a 1 year sit-out despite the change in location.
CIF Bylaw 206.C.(10):
(10) Athletically-Motivated Valid Change of Residence
If a student completes a valid change of residence as provided in Bylaw 206.C.(1-5), a student may not be eligible to participate at the varsity level if there is evidence the move was athletically motivated or the student enrolled in that school in whole or in part for athletic reasons (See Bylaw 200; 510.B.-E.).
CIF Bylaw 510 C says: âPre-enrollment contact or an athletically motivated transfer may be considered prima facie evidence that the student enrolled in that school in whole or in part for athletic reasons and cause the student to be ineligible for participationâŚâ
And 510 E (1) says that transferring to a school after participating on a non-school team, club, or camp that is associated with the new school (including its coaching staff) with or without a corresponding change of residence may qualify as an âathletically motivated transfer.â

Bishops rarely, if ever accepts Jr. academic transfers let alone athletic transfers 
. That school is so academically rigorous, they have no need to. The menâs program has suffered since Coach Peabody handed over the reins to captain joy stickâŚ
The sign of a good coach to me has always been those that can to do more with less. Why a âtechnicalâ, national team coach cant seem to do this with his own players remains a great mystery. I predict Bishops will fall to La Jolla again and be desiccated by CCHS which will finish as the #1 the nation. lucky to finish 9th
Bishopâs has won multiple CIF championships since Ian started doing the head coaching. They won in 19, 21, 22 and Iâm pretty sure they won the adjusted 2020 year championship to make it 4 in a row. They made 5 in a row, narrowly losing to the favorite CC in overtime in 23. I wouldnât call that suffering.
I think they generally do more with less, too. The academic rigor you mentioned is one of the reasons for that because itâs harder for kids to get in there as freshmen or transfers. They have a 30m pool and a somewhat decentralized club pipeline, whereas LJ and Cathedral both have 50 meter pools and a centralized club pipeline. And a drop from a projected top 6 finish to a top 9 finish in the 2026 high school rankings isnât a knock on them. I think theyâre doing just fine.
edit: I think I may have gotten one of those years I said they won wrong. Either way, theyâve won a lot this decade

You are misinformed. Doug Peabody was the head coach through 2024 and remained fully in charge until his son graduated. He led every aspect of the program during the years you referenced. To my knowledge, the first time in Bishopâs history that the boysâ team failed to make Division I was after Ian took full control, and that happened again in 2025.
That was actually my point. Peabody consistently did more with less, which is one of the reasons he is in the Hall of Fame.
I also think Shores remains a highly centralized pipeline, with the overwhelming majority of the roster coming through that program. So moving from perennial championship contention to finishing 6th or 9th isnât simply âstill being competitive.â For a program with Bishopâs history and resources, itâs evidence of a decline in the standard that was previously established.
I know that Ian has been doing head coaching in games since at least 2018. Him and Doug are clearly a solid team and have had success at Bishopâs together. Peabody of course has had long term success dating back to the 90s. No doubt.
Regarding my pipeline comment, yes the vast majority of bishopâs players play Shores. They just tend to have to practice all over SD (decentralized) while La Jolla and Cathedral kids tend to only practice in their own backyards. That makes things easier and Iâd think that is in part because their pools have more space.
Iâm standing by my comment that Bishopâs is doing just fine, whether or not Ian or Doug is technically the head coach.
Iâm not sure that limb is as sturdy as it has been recently. It will be a competitive season and the structure of the open division will be fascinating and will infuriate many. Iâm comfortable on that limb.

Obvious athletically motivated transfers are not limited to Southern California.
Letâs talk SS public schools.
Los Angeles county. Long Beach Wilson and Mira Costa. Are those the only two relatively top competitors?
OC. Newport, CDM, Laguna, Foothill, Probably some others.
Ventura. Dos Pueblos stands alone?
Is the best league is trinity league and which one?
Bishops was very young last season with a majority of players being sophomores and freshman. Both of those classes are formidable. With Alistair Sterrett (goalie) coming aboard, I feel theyâll be at least one of the Top 10 teams in the country. Sterrett was outstanding today vs Russia in the Cadet Worlds QF game.

Alistair Sterrett fills a huge hole at Bishopâs at goalie that has existed since Jaxon Leach graduated. I think this team will make some noise for sure.

He moved from Mercer Island and has never played for SD Shores so I would assume so.
