2026 Champions Cup

Any insights into what teams will be competing for the 2026 Champions Cup? Sounds like this year’s competition will take place in Las Vegas.

The qualifying tournament for the pac zone is September 26 and have at least 6 teams on the boys side: CCU, LAMO, Stanford, Diablo, 680 and San Jose Express. I don’t know anything about the other zones.

Diablo formed a superteam with kids from Newport and Hawaii. They finished 1st. CCU 2nd and Stanford 3rd. Believe that updated allocations were 2 total for PAC zone.

Curious, how was that allowed? It’s zone 14u champs so if a team won by playing athletes from another zone, how does that work? Why not bring in some 16 year olds while we are at it :upside_down_face:!

I think it was left open to allow kids from zones not sending teams to be able to find teams they could participate with. Last year SCAR had a kid from American River WPC in Sacramento, and nobody expressed any outrage as CEN didn’t have any competing teams.

This year, I believe there is again an American River WPC kid on SCAR this year. There are kids from HAW on Diablo and there may be a kid from SEZ on Park City. Diablo broke new ground this year by taking kids from zones that did have competing teams. I don’t have an issue with this.

It is good for the kids to be exposed to different coaches and to make new friends. It is also fun as a parent to quickly set up a WhatsApp group and form the support structure for a team. It will cross a line if a zone team is made up entirely of a single team from a different zone who was skirting qualification requirements, but we aren’t there yet.

I agree with you if you have kids that are in zones where they are not sending teams I think that’s fine. However, if you have kid/kids from another club in the same zone that you are “borrowing” then I feel that’s not right. I guess there is nothing saying you can’t do that but is that something we should be encouraging?

Diablo also had kids from NorCal and San Clemente.

Is it the same Diablo and Scar team that competed in the back to school tournament?

No, it is not the same Diablo team

I’ll just said the final will be probably Mission and North Irvine, winner North Irvine is the team to beat this season with the player and the coaching staff they have.

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to a few of these. It really shouldn’t surprise anyone at this point. The lengths at which they will go for youth sports, let alone 8th graders, his entirely their decision and it’s entirely the decision of the rule makers to either enforce or make new rules. Nobody should be surprised. If you read the news, whether it’s the New York Post or the Orange County register, you know how far people will go to win, so it’s best if we just not make that discussion point. As far as I know, this is perfectly within the rules
