0-4 on sprints with 6 min quarters doesn’t help
I’m working on more detailed stats. These include the shootouts. FTH = Direct Shot after foul

This is great. Can you strip out the penalty shots to get a better perspective for shooting in the field? Would be good to know how many of those missed shots resulted in counter attack goals by the opposing teams. Last 3 matches were the only ones that mattered for these stats. Shooting percentages against ZIM don’t really tell us much.
Taylor was a dominate player. How many exclusions/5 meters did he draw in the last three games?
Really interesting, but would be more interested in seeing the last 3 games only. Shin was our leading scorer, but numbers seem skewed with his 8 goal performance in the 15-6 win over Australia. In the last 3 games, without penalty shots, he appears to be 3/14 (so he was 15/21 in the first rounds on non penalty shots). We only had two players average more than 1 goal a game without counting penalties in the elimination rounds, Taylor 8/11 (no shots recorded in our semifinal game) and Coleman 6/15 (not including 3/4 on penalties).
I agree. The elimination rounds are the better benchmark since they reflect performance against the highest-quality opponents. It also reinforces how balanced the offense needed to be at that stage—relying on inflated group-stage production can be misleading. It also highlights how much Taylor and Coleman carried the offense in the elimination rounds. Without counting penalties, Taylor went 8-for-11 (with no shots recorded in the semifinal), and Coleman was 6-for-15, plus 3-for-4 on penalties. That paints a much different picture than the overall tournament stats. Taylor is amazing to watch and best thing to come out of the center since Hallock. Having a HS coach who was a beast in the center himself I’m sure has helped.
It’s a good thing for you that I’m interested in this enough to handle requests. ![]()
Just the knock out 3 rounds and without the shootouts.

I’ve never tracked shots missed vs shots saved/blocked. I have no idea what a good ratio is. But I have the data now…![]()
Jeez, Francesco Pintaric’s only shot of these 3 games was the final 5M? Brutal situation. I feel for him even more now.
UPDATED with more shots blocked.
He had a killer assist on the counter entry at the end of the 3rd against Spain. Showed a lot of patience and composure. Unfortunate Ian switched him in for Hunter after the semi shootout only for the same result.
Thanks for sharing all the stats. Great info. I was really surprised that Harry Siafaris didn’t get more playing time, especially in the last game. Taylor was a beast and played great but they really could have used another big body and scorer. Harry was so dominant against all these boys in Academy. Also thought Fran would play a lot more. Seems like the coach has his favorites.
Agree. Grayson was phenomenal and Harry could’ve contributed a lot more if given the opportunity.
Some guys who could’ve really helped this team were left at home. And some guys who could’ve really helped this team spent an inordinate amount of time on the bench. Hard to know what the thinking was…
All that said, if I am not wrong, 4th place is a record finish for USA men 16U. USA men are elevating standards and expectations!
I think that Academy led by Coach Kocur, reps in the national league, and actually practicing as teams before major tournaments, which didn’t happen in previous years, all are contributors to the recent success.
It’s not every cadet worlds that you have a Taylor a Siafaris and a Coleman on your 16u team.
I think this gets to the bigger issue. The U.S. has arguably the deepest pool of athletic talent in the world. As @martinsf pointed out, at some point, we have to start evaluating the coaches and system that’s developing and selecting them. We’ve been convinced that we’re “close” for 20 years now or that we simply can’t compete with the top European teams, but I don’t buy that. The gap isn’t in raw talent—it’s in coaching, player development, and the pathway. The athletes are there. It’s the system that’s falling short. Hats off to the boys, they did there very best and am proud of what they accompished.
Very proud of the boys and only disappointed because the pool (pun intended) of players the U.S. had for this particular age group had very real gold medal potential.
Congrats to the boys on a wonderful tournament. Everyone is very proud of all of you. The coaches did a great job and congrats. I do question the ODP pipeline for coaches. We need better. There are coaches with the different ODP zones with very little head coaching experience or top club experience. Example - where are the coaches from the PAC Zone? CCU, Lamo, Stanford, 680, Etc.
This group seems to have performed to expectations, right? 4th place overall is a good finish. There was another group sent to Serbia, how did that group do? Was this a clear A and B situation, or are some of the claims above about some boys left home etc referring to that group or others on no team at all?
I thought the team looked really stout and to miss out on a medal with two shootout loses against the best in the world. They should hold their heads high and get back to work! They certainly performed infinitely better than our Women’s Cadet NT. I mean the women’s team got 5th and were acting like they just won the Olympics declaring they made history so…
“Infinitely better” is doing a lot of work there. One team finished 5th (best ever for the program) and the other lost two shootouts and went home without a medal. Both can be true at the same time without the dramatic comparisons.
Also wild to act like a Cadet team being happy about a historic placement is some kind of character flaw. Let kids be proud of results. The scoreboard already settled the rest.
