Ah the Cozy Boys won 18s.
Most of us are focused on the Championship Div but here’s an interesting stat -
16U Classic Silver - 4 of 4 semifinalists are SPA
18U Classic Silver - 3 of 4 semifinalists are SPA
I get these are places 49-52, but medaling in any division is a great experience. Why not allocate more Championship spots to the stronger zones rather than as charity allocations for weaker zones? Let weaker zones have a shot at Classic medals rather than getting shellacked for two days before finding parity in the bottom half of Championship Gold?
They were indeed the Cozy Boys… a name so good you couldn’t possibly forget ![]()
Today’s semifinals in the 18u, 16u, and 14u championship age groups:
18u
Lamo vs. Regency
SET vs. SOCAL (a rematch of their game on Thursday)
16u
Newport vs. Lamo
SB 805 vs. SD Shores
14u
Newport vs. Diablo
Patriot Navy vs. South Coastal
Both 18U semi games should be great. SET is up over SoCal 6-5 at half. Really looking forward the Regency vs Lamorinda game. Hard not to root for Regency. Have to respect young high school teams.
On a side note, to the SET dad standing on the rail yelling into my and my elderly parents’s ears, show some class. Constantly yelling “whiner” to the SoCal coach is getting old and I guess that the irony is lost on you.
SET vs Regency in the Championship.
It should be quite a battle.
Any predictions?
SET by 1 over Regency
SOCAL by 2 over Lamo
*I will second Jeff’s predictions *
Congrats to Newport 14u girls on beating Patriot A in the finals and winning JO. There was too much talk from some Patriot fans on this and old boards about their invincibility and even conjecturing that Patriot B could medal as well ( they finished 13th and could have finished lower - they barely beat Tsunami in 13-20 quarters in a shootout and also beat SD Shores by a goal).
The moral of the story: Patriot girls are great but competition is alive and well!!
This is so true! A little parity in top 5 teams in 14U and 16u
- Newport
- Patriot A
- South Coast
- Diablo
- Stanford
16u
1.Newport
2. SB 805
3. SD Shores
4. Lamo
5. Clovis A (perviously ranked 27?)
SET 8 Regency 5 final.
Congratulations to SET. I am always pulling for the underdog, but SET was definitely the better team today.
The reason Patriot 14’s lost by 1 is on the Patriot coaches. They sent their Top 14’s to last nights 16U game against Shores for the semi play in game and lost 10-7. They played every minute of that game and they gassed those girls against a Top 3 16U team that they were never going to beat.
A three-peat for SET and the first 18U gold medal for Coach Damato!
Wonder how much of a difference Chrissy Flynn made to help SET? The kid is incredible. . . .
I am not so sure about it. At the JO Quals, the final game between Newport and Patriot went into a shootout afaik. All that talk about how invincible that group probably did not help.
As for Joe’s comment about parity. Yes there is a lot of parity between teams say #3-#12. Newport and Patriot are in the class of their own.
Flynn has been playing for SET for years. She is definitely an important cog in the machine, but that team is incredibly deep. Next man up.
Heads up: If you want to maintain access to the 2025 Session 2 JO Schedule, you may want to download your own copy immediately. For Session 1, it is already too late. The Session 1 Excel/1drv schedule has been nuked and the S1 Google Docs schedule has been overwritten with S2 information.
She played for 680 a summer or two ago, my daughter played with her. . . .
Slightly OT- Marco makes a good point about links being deleted. if you had an older daughter play in session 2 2019, the Woollett left live stream has been pulled from the usawp page but the right course has not. I have no idea how long that link might last.
My mistake then. For some reason, I had thought that she had been making the trip down to SET for a while.
