First brought to our attention by polo86:
Early. Small data sample, but I’d love to have someone give a tutorial to the board on the underlying math/methodology CIF is using. Not sure where “Seed” is derived from and how SoS is determined given the huge disparity between teams across all divisions and how or if the strength of an opponent from outside CIFSS is tracked for SoS purposes.
What stands out:
Santa Margarita hasn’t played anyone.
Oaks is better than at least 10 teams ahead of them.
The South Coast Tournament will provide clarity on where a number of the teams stand at this point.
Last year, I believe we had to wait until two weeks before CIF before we got any type of poll for the boys. I think on the girls side, at least for Southern Section, they started to release them weekly in January.
Again, it is extremely early. Some teams have played only a handful of games. Other teams are already halfway through with their season, but at least we have some type of reference to go off of between now and the end of October.
And to Kickout, I believe they are using the Massey system. I haven’t seen anything indicating that they have changed from that formula. As far as strength of schedule goes, I have no idea how they calculate that.
…and some teams aren’t reporting scores. There’s more than a few “coaches” who dump their schedule and results right at the deadline. I’m not sure if that’s gamesmanship, negligence, or both.
do they do these polls for ccs too?
No, at this time, CIF-SS is the only one using Massey.
I used to do the girls for the Central Section of Massey as I have access. But do to work, I have not been able to get on and do it.
Week 2
This looks better than two weeks ago.
What’s the rationale for Wilson to be so high? They’ve lost to Buena and Harvard Westlake and are ranked higher?
Without looking at the schedules, quality wins? There are 4 teams my son’s school have beat this season and are ranked higher, so I would guess it has quality or something like that, but that is just my guess.
Wow, sounds like they’re getting hosed. Looks like Laguna and mater Dei are Wilson’s only top 15 wins. Other teams have more than that
Looking at some scores and results as the end of season approaches, some D3/D4 bubble teams are absolutely throwing games to drop their ranking and get into an easier playoff division.
Set up a system…someone will game it…
Wish they would have put the same declaration on the water polo playoff bulletin as they did on the CIF football bulletin.
I thought publishing weekly standings was a mistake exactly for this reason.
Well, now they’ve beaten HW. Good for them.
