Cal is in a better position than Stanford right now, but Stanford is clearly playing better. I do not think Cal is beating USC a 3rd time, and I think UCLA is a terrible match up for them. So it may come down to the Stanford game. You also have to factor in the MPSF tournament results for at large. I do like Stanford’s chances better to win a game in LA this weekend. Is Pina out for the season? Thats going to hurt Cal. Cal played Air Force after the Fordham game, so Arlett should be available this weekend. Also, on the seedings for NCAA’s, it will really depend on who wins the WCC. UOP has 5 losses, SJS has 6, and CBU has 7. Keep an eye on total losses when the teams are determined.
great work ~ ! every week !
Great show as always. And while a do agree the WCC is deeper with the additional quality team, not sure it is a better conference than the Big West and the NCAA RPI continues to rate the BW as the top RPI conference in water polo (https://stats.ncaa.org/selection_rankings/nitty_gritties/46402).
Not sure anyone over looks CBU with their perfect conference record, moreso we aren’t hyping them up with only two wins against teams better than Santa Clara, and those two teams have losses to Harvard and CMS. We are all routing for a pair of wins this weekend and earning a top 10 spot for Coach Rosa’s team.
I think most people are okay if UOP gets knocked out in conference semifinals and does not get an at large bid (if they win the WCC regular season) as they only set up one game against BW competition which they lost (after changing the Davis game to an exhibition no less). Couple that with a loss to the #6 team in WCC and nothing in their resume says they are close to such a bid.
Now that LMU ran over CBU it changes things a little bit. San Jose or UOP should take the first seed 3-5 is wide open. Up in the thin air it could be anyone’s tournament to win.
Stanford was up 3 goals on UCLA with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. It was 9-8 Stanford at the end of 3rd and neither team was ahead by more than a goal the rest of the way.
the comment about MPSF uses Delfina balls for conference games and Kap7 for everything else. What are we doing here? thats beyond dumb to use 2 different balls in a season.
Its tough to know. Our understanding is that Delfina sponsored MPSF specifically so MPSF teams have to use those balls during all home games. However, when Stanford, an mpsf team, played at Santa Clara, a WCC team, last night, they used Kap7 as the WCC does not have the same agreement with Delfina. It does seem simpler and better for consistency sake for all games to use the same ball.
The NCAA tournament, for example, we think will be using Kap7.
this sport makes some really bone headed mistakes. They use kap 7 and Mikasa in club. Kap 7 and Delfina in NCAA. The balls are all different. Its mind blowing a team would have to practice with different balls depending on who they are playing next.
I believe this is the same for College Basketball. I believe it’s the B1G where one school uses a different ball from the conference, but the ball is sanctioned by the NCAA. A little home court advantage.
