Frosh lefty on SRV doesn’t ring a bell.
OK. I might be wrong. There was a good lefty on the 680 16u team during Spring-Summer, who was 15 and was an 8th grader. I thought she was going to SRV. If not, it is SRV’s loss. Maybe Carondelet then? It does not matter much really. The most important part is that SRV kept everybody from last year.
I have no idea what is a coaching situation at SHP but I was wondering if Gabi would like the US preppy school environment where, sometimes, power moves by parents happen. I remember writing on this board a few months ago that Gabi should be careful about his PE teaching skills. It is a shame that the previous coach had to move to Menlo.
The lefty is not at SRV, not sure if she’s Carondelet or Campo? Watched a few of those 680 16u games, I don’t think that lefty started or contributed too much in the quarters/semis/finals games. Could be wrong though. Lack of a lefty will hurt SRV.
You’re right, Poolpro24. I missed this development. Gabi Hernandez had to return to Spain. Adriana Vogt Reed will coach SHP this year. She served as the interim coach for part of the 2025 season, leading SHP to the CCS Open Division title.
Hernandez had to return to Spain? That’s a bummer to lose your coach just as the season begins.
Well, I am sure she was the youngest (or one of the very youngest) on that 680 16U team. Anyway, it turns out she has been good enough to make deep Carondelet’s varsirty as a freshman

Less close. Carondelet blew several 6on5s with turnovers on offensive fouls; they hit the post several times.
Could have easily been 17-7…
They play again this season, unlike last year. Looks like the EBAL league split in two halves.
Interesting. So the top five EBAL teams (Carondelet, SRV, Monte Vista, Amador Valley and California ?) form the first division and the bottom five teams form the second division? I think this is a good news for Carondelet, SRV, and Monte Vista.
After that game I definitely need to drop SRV down in the rankings a couple spots. Still a strong team, but not ready for Carondelet. It was close at halftime and then SRV made turnover after turnover. Carondelet was in better shape and deeper.
We’ll have a much better lay of the land after the Acalanes tourney which I think all of the teams are participating in.

The funny thing is that I thought that your original ranking was somewhat wrong (with SRV #3, Miramonte #8 and Davis outside of top eight). I figured that you put SRV too high, and Miramonte and Davis too low. But things have probably changed a little bit.
My general feeling is that Carondelet is the best team in Northern and Central California, and the next six are, in some order, SHP, Soquel, SRV, Miramonte, Davis, and Campolindo. I think that Leland, Acalanes, and AG/Clovis should complete the top ten.
Moreover, Miramonte, SHP, and probably Davis will be stronger at the end of October and November compared to their September/ early October showings. Miramonte has been missing their two better players and it definitely showed in scrimmages. They are somewhat youngish with 13 (5+8) freshmen and sophomores and only 8 (4+4) juniors and seniors. SHP might need some time to balance things after Gabi’s departure but they are strong and their coaching staff is obviously capable. Davis peaked at the end of the season last year and, probably, they will do it again this year, because of various factors.
Campolindo has several excellent players, including their #17, but they are probably not that deep this year. Same for Acalanes. In short, it is quite possible that Soquel and SRV could stay at or not far from the top three for some time

I think they will play their first game of the season at the Acalanes tournament, so Davis could be a bit game rusty.
Anyway, my point is that I would not pay much attention to any unofficial rankings till Norcal invite at the end of October. Still, all this rankings talk might be good for entertainment.
Acalanes tournament is feeling more important than past years to gauge who the early season leading contenders are for NCS Open division. Carondelet’s strong start vs. SRV keeps them the favorite, but then could we see a four team season long battle for three spots between Miramonte, Campolindo, SRV and Acalanes???
I agree. Still, last year, SRV finished third at the Acalanes tournament after beating MV, Campolindo, and Acalanes and losing to SHP. Yet, at the end, they missed on the Open Division after losses to Acalanes and Miramonte (as well as to SHP, AG, and Clovis) in October.
It beats me why NCS would not expand the Open Division to six teams.

SRV actually did make open last year. they player Carondelet in the first round and lost by one or two.
SRV did not make NCS Open Division (which is only 4 teams). They defeated Las Lomas to win the D1 title. They did qualify for the D1 Norcal Regional where they faced Carondelet in the quarterfinal.
