Quick question: why no Stanford on your list if theyâre roughly the same level as Lamo? Also curious which Patriot team shows up.
Bracketing. Stanford winning their initial round-robin will put them in group M where theyâll have to beat Newport, and I donât see anyone beating Newport.

Expect some upsets on Saturday in 14u AA if everyone brings their full rosters. Could see Greenwich beating SD shores in expected matchup on Saturday. Mission could make waves on Saturday too depending on who is there.

Iâm not sure Iâd consider a Greenwich victory in that game an upset. When Greenwich faced SD Shores at Patriot Games, Shores had no answer for Greenwichâs 2M center-forward. It is possible Shores was sandbagging as it was an exhibition game on a 3-game day, but the end result was a 14-9 win for Greenwich.
Greenwich vs SD Shores will be a game to watch. I really hope someone friendly gets video of that game as I have to be at a different pool at 6:30PM on Saturday.

Sorry yes agree not an upset based on seeding or prior game at patriot games but I meant upset to your prediction of SD shores finishing 4th.

As a travel trip San Diego is a great tournament. Unfortunately 5min quarters and pools being divided into small courses prevent it from being anything more than a fun travel trip.

I agree. Small courses and 5 minutes is a different game. Look for upsets.
So Marco had a beautiful writeup and predictions as you can see above. Iâll go about it a slightly different way. Iâll try to predict the medal games, but also try to read the brackets and give us some games to watch if we have two hours!

10u Girls Division
Medal Games:
Newport vs Lamo for 1st
805 vs North Irvine for 3rd
Games to watch:
North Irvine vs Commerce girls. If North Irvine has all their girls (some have been playing 12u), they will win. If those girls play up, commerce wins and 805 gets third. The rest of the tournament wonât be close. Newport will be a couple steps above everyone else, then lamo a step or two above the other medal contenders.
10u AA Division
Medal Games:
Del Mar vs Patriot for 1st
Commerce vs Newport for 3rd
Games to watch:
CCU vs Greenwich in D Bracket at 11am on Saturday. Havenât seen Greenwich and CCU is always good with 10u boys. The entire E Bracket. San Clemente girls are good and could easily upset both 680 and Newport. All these games are worth watching. Socal vs SD Shores in F Bracket. This was the bronze medal game in the CalCup State Finals and will now be a bracket game.
Semifinals will be fun too. Commerce and Patriot are on a collision course. 3 weeks ago Commerce bested them, last week Patriot punched back. I have Patriot winning by 3. Then in the final Del Mar is the outright favorite, but having their first âcompetitiveâ game of the tournament might give them trouble executing against Patriot. I got Del Mar by 5. If anybody can stay within 5 to this Del Mar team we might have some fun going into JOs.
12u Girls AA Division
Medal Games:
Patriot vs 805 for 1st
Back Bay vs San Clemente for 3rd
Games to watch:
Lots of interesting games the entire weekend. We have a late night show-off between Back Bay and Stanford at 815pm. Then the quarter finnals on saturday will be extremely fun with likely matchups of 805 vs Del Mar (5pm), Patriot vs Newport (430pm) and Lamo vs Back Bay (630pm). I have the semifinals as Back Bay vs Patriot and 805 vs San Clemente. My biggest hope is that course size and officials wonât be a factor in these games as they were in CalCup Finals.
14u Girls AA Division
Medal Games:
Patriot vs Newport for 1st
805 vs SD Shores for 3rd
Games to Watch:
This division has a couple interesting bracket games: San Clemente vs Greenwich and 908 vs Shores are upset alerts. I have both underdogs (SC and Shores) winning. This is one of the only brackets that goes straight into quarter finals. We have Patriot vs San Clemente (245pm), South Coast vs SD Shores (115pm), Newport vs Stanford (330pm) and 805 vs Lamo (5pm). I have the southern california teams winning, but this is where the norcal teams can make upsets happen. Ultimately I have Patriot winning by 7 or 8.
12u Boys AA Division
Medal Games:
Socal vs Mission for 1st
Newport vs Del Mar for 3rd
Games to Watch:
In bracket play there are three games that catch my eye: Patriot vs Temple City (3pm), Lamo vs North Irvine (815pm) and Greenwich vs CIU (345pm). After bracket play all bracket winners play in four brackets. I have them as follows: Newport, La Jolla, Stanford (M Bracket), Socal, Patriot, Greenwich (N Bracket), Del Mar, North Irvine, SD Shores (O Bracket), Mission, CCU, 908 (P Bracket), Very interesting to me are Socal vs Greenwich, with patriot as a deep underdog, but they could make it happen. Second is Del Mar vs North Irvine. Ultimately I have Newport vs Socal in the semi, as well as Del Mar vs Mission. I have socal winning it all in a shootout. My biggest question in this division is where is Vanguard?
14u Boys AA Division
Medal Games:
Greenwich vs La Jolla for 1st
Newport vs Lamo for 3rd
Games to Watch:
This division follows the same setup as the 12u boys division. In bracket play I see three upset alerts. Stanford vs OCWPC (345pm), Newport vs Shore Aquatics (815pm) and LA Premier vs Socal (3pm). I have OC and Socal upsetting the 1 seeds. On day 2 they go into second brackets with all other bracket winners: Del Mar, Newport, Socal (M Bracket), Greenwich, SD Shores, Commerce (N Bracket), CCU, 680, La Jolla United (O Bracket) and Lamo, OCWPC, Mission (P Bracket). I have newport upsetting Del Mar in this bracket. Greenwich beats Newport in their semi and La Jolla beats Lamo in their semi. I have Greenwich winning the tournament in a low scoring game where La Jolla will drop hard on Greenwichâ monster centers. My biggest question for this division is where is Patriot Navy? Everyone else is here..
As always another great opportunity to be dead wrong in public.

Greenwich actually won the Frozen Cup in January, beating Diablo.
In what age group was that?
I think Greenwich played as âexhibitionâ but they won against the medals teams

Patriot and CIU never came to this tournament.
I will not have a video coverage, but I plan on watching many of the games throughout all three days.
