same issue in Central Valley. Eric Benson @Bulldog waterpolo is setting up a league to be cost affordable during a weekend day to get kids in the water who cannot afford the expensive tournaments. you should reach out to him to see if he has any openings for your teams.
Completely agree with this perspective…
Water polo is and should continue to be a fun sport (not just about going to college)
This is how we make the sport bigger in America
Too much of water polo is going from nothing to year round with very few options to just play for fun and be able to have time to play other sports. USA Water Polo is all about high level water polo and doesn’t promote recreation water polo. San Diego Rec pools have teams that are very affordable. I just don’t think many people know it exists.
I would love to see this data for SWZ - is it available online?

Nothing is permanent. Everything changes. Whichever way you want slice it, it’s not going to be the same now as it was when you began this journey. The question is really up to you, you’re either willing, or unwilling, to participate in it as it has evolved into something different.
I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said about the sport and its evolution. We could have a whole side discussion on economic systems, and why this is happening. It won’t change how things are.
So it comes down to this, do you want to continue to participate in something that has clearly given you a lot and that you love? Sounds like you do. So I would say do it for your reasons. Fight the stuff you don’t like, accept the stuff you can’t change, and keep loving the sport that has given so much to you. Be the change you want to see.
Because there is still some young person coming up in the sport that you will have an interaction with, a relationship as a coach, and you will be a game changer for them in their life. And that’s why you do it. Outcome is important, but process is what truly matters and you can be a part of that. ![]()
