Boys' Club Season 2025

The other risk with these tournaments is that you get served up the 8:00 a.m. game followed by 8 hours of downtime and a 5:00 p.m. second game. Particularly brutal for teams from outside the OC area who can’t go home between games.

Not to mention, KAP 7 Tournaments entry fees are through the roof

it’s a bad product for good teams

What are we seeing at the Vanguard showcase this weekend?

Paul Munoz is streaming the games that Vanguard plays in.

HUGE upset in 18u division 1! Mission (Jserra) beat Newport 20-15. Was anyone at the game? I can’t imagine Newport losing the Mission especially since it seems like many of Jserra’s top players are playing on Beast Boyz. I also heard that Mission ended up losing to Trojan… did Newport have all their guys?

Yes Newport had all their guys.

Yes Mission lost to Trojan by 1. Trojan played well while Mission looked fatigued after playing Newport.

“I can’t imagine Newport losing to Mission” - that’s why they play the games. Yes, many of Mission’s seniors are playing for Beast Boys but Mission has very talented Juniors and underclassman that are obviously playing at a very high level. Full video is available at gols.co

The games are on GOLS. Joel did a great job, as always. I watched some. Looked like teams were mostly full. Everyone was playing 3 games in one day. A lot of substitutions and a long day for most, including the refs. Vanguard went 0-3 after going 4-0 in week one. 35 goals in the Newport/Mission game is wild. Other teams were playing defense.

High scoring game for sure but you have excellent attackers on both teams. Both Mission and Newport had many players with 2 fouls early on (some playing 3 quarters with 2 fouls). This seemed to affect how aggressively they were able to play on defense.

Neither Mission nor Newport had any seniors playing on Saturday and both teams were rotating in a number of frosh/soph. Del Mar too. Now’s the time to do it. Expect those three and perhaps Beast Boys (if they can play team ball) to battle it out in Supers.

Lots of appreciation for Futures. They have created a solid platform for great competition.

I don’t think CIU or Trojan had any seniors either. Also a lot of 6 in 6 out.
Vanguard may have been the only team with seniors.

Tyler Anderson was the most dominant player this weekend (D1 Futures) and was the difference in the game. Both teams played many of their underclassmen as well.

Goalie standouts: Oren Penning (Most consistent), Jonas Ransford, Declan Goldstein, Grant Anderson, Mack Munger, Lian Kim

Some of the standouts were as follows: Tyler Anderson, Connor Coleman, Dylan Park, Livio Galbru, Connor Ohl, Kai Kaneko, Mason Netzer, Ryan Fresca, Eric Kazan, Colton Bell, Caleb Yost, Flynn Guenther, Lucas Pearce, Jack Pointner, Kai Johnson, Ivan Khramtsov, Charlie Jones, Dylan Hazen

Has anyone seen a finalized list of teams/divisions for the upcoming girls 16U and 18U Futures League games that kick off shortly after what’s left of the high school playoffs?

The schedules are still being put together for OC Cup, but I wanted to put out into the universe how good I think the logo for that tournament is this year. I like it.

Top 20 12u Boys Water Polo Teams
end of week #27

#1 Mission WPC – The strong keep getting stronger. They were without their center forward in Week #1 of Futures and still over-powered their competition, then followed that up by grabbing the top spot in 12u at KAP7 International.

#2 Vanguard – Cracks in their invincibility started to appear at Vanguard Showcase, and a week later, Del Mar made it official with Vanguard’s first defeat at the hands of a 12u team this season. (I don’t count scrimmages)

#3 La Jolla United – This team has changed dramatically in the past two weeks, but it appears tales of their demise have been greatly exaggerated. They still have one of the best goalies in 12u. The unofficial 10u MPV from two years ago has dropped down from LJU’s 14u B team, and coach Stefano Mattesini was present for LJU’s decisive Futures Week #2.

#4 Del Mar – LJU’s dramatic team changes spilled over to local rival Del Mar. Their first game after incorporating new additions was a loss to Patriot, which makes Del Mar 0-3 versus Patriot this season. They seemed to work out some of the issues and have looked terrifying since then, culminating in the victory over previously unbeaten Vanguard.

#5 Newport – Has had a rough couple of weeks. They lost to Del Mar and Temple City at Vanguard Showcase while missing their starting center defender. His return couldn’t stop Newport from losing in a shootout with North Irvine in Futures Week #2. They are still a dangerous team as evidenced by their third overall in 12u at KAP7 International.

#6 CC United – This team seems built for the more physical style of Southern California water polo. They finished fourth overall in 12u at KAP7 International in Orange County, but they struggle with Lamorinda, Stanford, and SJX when playing in Northern California. This year is an Orange County JO year, and CCU gets my nod as being the top Northern California team even if they aren’t the top North California Future’s team.

#7 Patriot – This team is Jekyll and Hyde. Sometimes teams have match-up advantages or just have a team’s number, as Patriot seems to with Del Mar, but Patriot beat SOCAL in KAP7 International and then got blown out by the same SOCAL team two weeks later. At the #7 spot on this list, Patriot could be ranked too low or too high.

#8 North Irvine – Early in the year I labeled North Irvine as the B2 Stealth Bomber of 12u boys water polo. Newport was on the receiving end in Futures Week #2. Overlook North Irvine at your peril.

#9 SOCAL – Great coaching is evident by a team getting continually better through the course of the season. SOCAL is that team.

#10 Greenwich – I haven’t seen them play since Patriot Games but they were impressive when mixing it up with Southern California teams.

#11 Lamorinda – They appear to be the monsters in Northern California Futures this season, and finished tied for 9th place at KAP7 International which fits perfect with this list as three teams ranked above Lamorinda weren’t playing in 12u at KAP7 International.

#12 Los Alamitos – Finished right behind Lamorinda at KAP7 International and are crushing everyone they’ve faced in Futures D2. I would not be surprised to see Los Alamitos involved in a mid-season Future’s division realignment.

#13 Channel Islands United – This is a team with a ton of potential but has stumbled recently. They are winless so far in Futures, and had a rough outing at Vanguard Showcase with their only win being over Patriot, but the Patriot win was a good one and they fished tied for 5th with a victory over North Irvine at KAP7 International.

#14 Stanford – Strong showing in Northern California Futures and came to play at Vanguard Showcase with a victory over Channel Islands United. They have a close loss to SJX in Future’s, and a close win over SJX at KAP7 International. It is a Southern California JO year, so the Southern California win puts Stanford atop SJX in the judge’s mind.

#15 San Jose Express – This team has bite. Although I have them as the fourth best team out of Northern California in this list, they have the potential to beat any of them and most of Southern California too. SJX is a very good team.

#16 Elite Water Polo – The powerhouse of the Inland Empire is undefeated in Futures D2 and is another candidate for division realignment. They were thumped by SJX in KAP7 International but had a great tournament.

#17 680 Drivers – While not the flag bearers for Northern California, they are still having a good year. Was sad to see both of their Sunday games in KAP7 International were against Northern California teams. It is not ideal to travel 500 miles to play the teams you see every week.

#18 Temple City – They beat Patriot and Newport and Stanford at Vanguard Showcase! They are undefeated in Futures D3. This team could be higher on this list.

#19 San Clemente – They finished tied for 13th place at KAP7 International, and they fight hard but this is a team that could lose their Future’s D1 status in a mid-season realignment.

#20 SHAQ – Not having the best Future’s, but did come down to KAP7 International and proved they belong on this list.

Any idea when future Socal March 8/9 scheduled will be out?

If you are referring to the delayed 12u schedule, it was released last night.

I see it now. I’m surprised los Alamitos A wasn’t moved up to D1 & San Clemente dropped to D2.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Turbo Cup results?

The Girls portion was a bummer since the Socal zones decided to do their evaluation on Sunday. That and I think futures starts in 2 weeks for the older girls. The Mountain zone girls cadet team flew out for 4 games in the 16’s, lost to Channel Islands twice, beat Puget sound and Coronado pretty good. In the second game against CIU, CIU was missing its one ODP player, but CIU beat the mountain zone team in a shootout. I guess 2 close battles with CIU made it worth their trip as in many of these tournaments you are lucky to get 2 good games.
