Here is the roster for the U.S. team that will participate in the U19 Pan American Games from September 28 through October 4:
Harper Gardner - goalie
Luke Harris - goalie
Clay Carrington
Ellis Culleton
Diego Dantas
Kane Fogg
Reed Hanna
Soren Jessen
Gigo Sarimsakci
Peter Saunders
Jackson Shaw
Nathan Simoncelli
Trent Smith
Jett Taylor
Does anyone know when this team is traveling? How many games will the active college players miss? Seems like a big loss for Harvard in particular to lose Carrington.
Brazil wins against USA in a shootout - sudden death. We played most of 4Q man down after a brutality call - and only gave up one goal while scoring two in that time. Gutty.
Rafael Suarez-Abraham wasn’t listed as a member of the U19 Pan American team by USA water polo but he’s shown on the 6-8 scorecard for today’s loss against Brazil. Suarez-Abraham is still in high school but he started on the U18 team that won the silver medal at last summer’s world championships and may have the highest ceiling of any American goalie since Adrian Weinberg. If he’s on the U19 team, I don’t know why he didn’t play at least part of the game againt Brazil..
Jackson Shaw. The result was a 5m for Brazil, ejection for Shaw (he’s out for the next game too) and a man down for 4 minutes in the 4th for Team USA. It was a terrible situation, but the team handled it well.
Though unrelated to the main issue, one of my preferred subjects is 6–8 scoring +/-. A thoughtful observer noted that a brutality call producing such a harsh result carries no matching penalty in 6–8 scoring. That seems reasonable.... Does 6-8 have a handle on WPEX?
It is listed as an exclusion in 6-8, which would be -1. But that seems like not enough of a negative considering everything that comes with a brutality. I may be missing something but that seems to be the most negative thing you can do to hurt your own team in a game and should carry more weight, IMO. The next 4 minutes Brazil had a 3-2 lead, one of those being the penalty shot. I am assuming they were down a man for 4 minutes but I am not certain.
Luke Harris and Harper Gardner were the rostered goalies per USA polo announcements. Both studs. We’d be fine with either. I’ve seen Luke in the stats and the highlights so it’s possible Harper didn’t make the trip.
I heard Harper Gardner dropped out at the last minute. Don’t know the reason. Rafeal Suarez needed a Visa–not sure if he can get it in time. Ellis Culleton had an issue because he turned 18 the same week and needed an adult Visa.
