In 14u girls, Dons lost to Shores Gold (B team). Patriot apparently showed no mercy to Lowpo: 31-0. Yikes
Their whole team depended on these 2 girls? Odd..
La Jolla (second in PSW JO Quals, seed 9) lost to CIU (seed 16).
PSW (san diego) will have no single-digit place finish this year
if SD Shores lose to Tsunami tonight.
Patriot apparently showed no mercy to Lowpo: 31-0
That’s the Patriots i know and love! ![]()
With the structure of the bracket, it is possible to win your way back in, but PSW didn’t make it easy on themselves.
I’ve been told Dons 14uG had the unfortunate luck of having one of their key players injured and out of JOs.
Yes, but not for parents. Coaches and administrators know who that contact is.
Yes, let’s celebrate the humiliation of 13 and 14 year-old girls.
I’m pretty sure that post was sarcasm. Please let it be sarcasm
Patriot vs LOWPO. Wow
I’m not sure how I feel about that one. That type of blowout is something I expect teams like the Carolina Tarheels, Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky Wildcats to do in March Madness. Bad look for Patriot IMHO. There was a Patriot parent next to me and he even looked embarrassed
Lots of blowouts in every division, as expected. The top platinum teams playing the teams that will fill the bottom of Gold division.
There’s a difference between running the counter for 4 quarters or slowing down and trying to set things up. However, when you set up and wait and hold the ball but the other team isn’t coming back on defense… what do you do?
Other teams seem to manage. Here are the 1st game scores of the top 8 seeds in 14U:
19-1, 17-5, 24-5, 19-1, 21-1, 20-0, 14-0, 13-1
Largest goal differential is 20. 31-0 is egregious.
That was indeed sarcasm. There is one particular coach on Patriots (yeah, you know who that is) that was coaching the girls to keep the pace as if there is a rabid dog chasing after them. Slowing down is probably perceived as “learning bad habits”. 2 years ago, when Patriot crew 12-14 was together, before they all went to different high schools (some stayed with Beckman, some went to JSerra (Mission)), that attitude - “no prisoners” - actually worked for them. 4-5 of them flirt with National team (2 of them are on it).
Sounds ruthless, but for them it really worked.
Patriot was not slowing the game down. Not subbing. Actively stealing the ball late into the 4th. That’s the difference. There are plenty of things a team can do to slow the game down. To me 20-1 is somewhat normal, but 31-0. Come on. I really felt bad for those athletes and their parents.
Where they warming up the first line for battle with Newport?
The more you describe it the closer it looks to the discipline and style of the Patriots of 2023-25
- 2023 National Champions: The Patriot 12U Girls won the Platinum Division Gold medal.
- 2024 National Runners-Up: The Patriot 12U Girls took Silver.
- 2025 National Runners-Up: Patriot 14U Girls squad (featuring many of those same players moving up an age group) also took Silver in 2025
Emotions of the opponent are really not a consideration. You judge yourself - did you push yourself enough. The other team might as well be tree trunks and your job is to stress yourself to outcompete yourself of yesterday.
There is nothing insulting about that behavior from them. It’s just how they self-condition.
And the “no subs” part is likely just them prepping first line for real battles. (The “no subs” part really bit them in 2024 where they brought just 2-3 people for bench and Newport took first line apart and broke them first time - there was no talent beyond first line.)
If they see each other it wouldn’t be until Tuesday I assume. I don’t think that’s warming up
I wasn’t there, I have no skin in the game lol! I was just stating that there’s a difference. If they ran up the score that sucks.
Changing the subject, this is the first time the girls play first. Along with getting done earlier in the week we also get to enjoy fresh officials. Anyone noticing a difference compared to being in session 2?
Talking about performative cruelty:
16u Girls:
W17-SANTA BARBARA WPC A: 12 W21-DIABLO ALLIANCE A: 0
Whoa! Wow!
That’s a statement to everyone else!
i agree this is too much by these teams. I think USA water polo should institute a mercy rule for here the clock runs continuously in some games. Newport and these teams doesn’t need to win by 20-30 goals 908 doesn’t need to win that game 25-4 either. And 908, Patriot, Newport, and even Lamo and Stanford (not known for their offense) didn’t slow down when it was obvious it was over.
Newport, Patriot, Diablo, Lamo, Stanford all played to dunk and I get that benches likely did just as much work, I get it, but none of those teams needed to do that today in theory unless there is a goal differential tiebreaker. It would be nice if all those teams didn’t do that today at 14U and below. These are kids. High school is fair game to an extent.
A rule change to have continuous clock after a 10 goal lead is a good mercy rule. Prob some other ideas. Either that or someone needs to take to 908, Newport, Patriot, Lamo, and Stanford’s coaches to tone it down on day 1?
Maybe I am in the minority, and to each their own, but all the top California teams could maybe just chill a bit.
why don’t they get San Clemente (another 20 Goal Dunk) Newport, Patriot, 908, and all these spa and pac and coastal clubs together for a meeting? Why are we OK with Newport 12U and Del Mar 12U doing the same thing to even younger kids? Bad look
Like I know they all really want a medal and I know that the older ages it feels a little more cutthroat, but there’s no need for these blowout games.
Greenwich won a game earlier in NE qualifiers 30-2
Newport wins all their games by 10+ goals which is fine but there was no need to run up 20 Today. It’s friggin Newport. Everyone knows they are going to win it all. Just dial it back man. Patriot by 30? Sheesh. I really like Coach Jimmy, but putting 25 up there for 908 today is ridiculous. Why didn’t someone say something there?
I think it’s time for USA Water Polo intervene for next year and stories like these and days like today when five top clubs decided to dunk on five Midwest teams….smh
Cap it at 10. Maybe 15 for kids ages 14 and below? Let’s be kind before they hit high school.
OK, rant over point made. Can we talk about day 2?
Class act. You realize this is not a national team, world, or Olympic performance right? These are 14U girls for goodness sake. This sounds absolutely horrible.
