2026 Junior Olympics - Session 1 - Girls + Coed

So long as the coach has a laugh-and-you’re-out policy, off hand makes even the worst blowout instantly competitive which is the goal. I’ve seen top national teams immediately play even with low gold division teams. Saw it at 14U girls and 10U coed. Value for everyone.

Personally I find that much less humiliating than 6 counterproductive keep away passes counted out loud followed by throwing the ball into the corner, and have had multiple kids on both sides of all of these scenarios.

Agree to disagree. Let’s move on

Yes agreed let’s quickly get back to trashing parents and accusing them of weird psychological problems on a Sunday morning :clinking_beer_mugs:

Back on topic… Specifically the CHAWP 14U girls won another game. I am pulling for them! (Not sure if it is the underdog story or the fact that I have known one of those athletes for many years. )

Those CHAWP girls are amazing. Only two subs. Went down 1-5 and clawed back. Santa Cruz has a great team

Chawp will likely medal once they get past San Clemente which I think they will.

They win that game and they become the #2 seed path, epic run!

Congrats to your girls at Chawp PMJ, keep It up

Help me with this guys/gals. CHAWP beat Santa Cruz +3, lost to SC -1, Santa Cruz beat SC+2 in shootout. Does this make CHAWP 1st with point diff?

I think this means San Clemente first, CHAWP second and Santa Cruz third, since a shootout loss is worth a point.

In group play, you get:

4 points regulation win

3 points shootout win

2 points shootout loss

1 point regulation loss

I think an interesting one will be Newport vs Diahblo and it could be a preview of the gold medal game. This is really one (maybe two) tests remaining.

I still think Newport wins handily, but it will be fun to watch the battle and they likely face each other again on Tuesday.

The margin of victory will tell the story. If it’s three goals or less, I think, mission accomplished for D to keep it close. If Newport blows them out by five or more…. Then I think we have seen every matchup this year and the bar has been set for 2026.

I’m pretty sure they haven’t played each other outside of a scrimmage. I’m biased and I’m rooting for Newport, but that’s only because my daughter broke her nose last year in a tourney against them. I admit that creates bias, it is what it is. Not the first and won’t be the last iykyk

You say the truth and your post gets erased ?

Newport vs the other top seeded Diaablo like everyone else. 10-4 at half. This is crazy how good Newport 14U girls are. They have now beaten them all. They have certainly earned it :flexed_biceps:

Edit: Final 18-7

Edit: No disrespect intended to the final 4 teams. 908 and Patriot and Diablo are the top teams this year too and made the final 4. I meant this as a strong kudos to the Newport girls who are just so above and beyond the rest at this age group right now that it’s honestly one of the most impressive runs. I’ve seen in a decade. I was more commenting just how special a run it is, but I recognize that it could look the other way to somehow discredit what the other three have done too. My apologies for the implication.

Hats off to all the girls and coaches and their special season

Yep, Newport 14s are a very good team

As for all the online drama about CHAWP 16s and 14s, they will finish where they belong. CHAWP 16u will play for 17th, and CHAWP 14u after losing one more time to Stanford( I assume it has been the third loss to Stanford in a row by 3-4 goals?) will play against Santa Barbara for the 7th place. Both are high quality teams with very good players, but they were not the favorites for top 5 finish in either age group.

Great event all in all. I’m not bitter about anything. I loved the enthusiasm and friendship seen of all the girls on all teams. Parents for the most part were very good and cheering was great! Girls WP looked great this weekend!

On a side note, does anyone find it a little weird how CHAWP didn’t get 1st in the last bracket to help them get 1-4. USAWP and their differential is bogus and needs to be evaluated. CHAWP beats Santa Cruz by 3, loses to SC by 1, and Santa Cruz beats SC in a shootout. CHAWP by all rights should have placed 1st in the bracket. It is what it is no crying over spilt milk. The CHAWP girls got noticed for sure this weekend. Basically iron man balling and still placed top 7/8 place . Congrats to those players

I love the humility. The vibes you gave in previous threads gave boredom because no team could match Newport. That has been apparent to most of the WP community for months. No shocker. You sound fanatical in this post.

No, not weird at all and had nothing to do with point differential. As @torpedo25 wrote earlier:

San Clemente had a regulation win and a shootout loss for a total of 6 competition points.

CHAWP had a regulation win and a regulation loss for a total of 5 competition points

Santa Cruz had a shootout win and a regulation loss for a total of 4 competition points.

The number of goals the respective teams scored is irrelevant beyond determining the match as a regulation win, a shootout win, and shootout loss, or a regulation loss.
