Vegas doesn’t quite get to 50%. In fact, not even enough to field a team. Why does the mountain zone deserve 3 championship and 3 classic spots if their top team can only scrounge up 6 players from the zone? This has to be stopped.

Name HS Zone
Max Jakle Laguna Beach SOPAC
Julian Amakasu Crean Lutheran SOPAC
Max Sauers Laguna Beach SOPAC
Whitley Beamon Golden CO MTN
Michael Adams Mountain View AZ MTN
Maddex Thornton ??? MTN
Palmer MacBeth San Clemente SOPAC
Hunter Danko Basic Academy (Vegas) MTN
Joao Leme Brazil Brazil
Oliver Wilmink Phoenix Country Day MTN
Flavio Moron Brazil Brazil
Sean Parshin Beckman SOPAC
Nathan Jobin Green Valley HS (Vegas) MTN
Gregory Bank Portola SOPAC
Jack Kramer San Marcos HS (Santa Barbara) CCA
Santana Del Castillo Crean Lutheran SOPAC

I think Gregory Banks is a typo. My guess is it is Gregory Bank from Portola High School. He rostered with North Irvine 16u Red back in 2022.

While we’re at it let’s stop the coastal kids from going to Sopac clubs or from Sopac to coastal.

Or just do away with Quals and make it open to all.

@Gibson did you follow the brackets to come up with your ranking? I watched Pride and LA Premier in Futures , both are not that strong assuming same rosters as in Futures. I also watched the N Irvine/Vegas at Quicksilver and they likely to lose a game on the first day and struggle . They are weaker than SD Shores and definitely SFWPC.

LA Premier breezed through CCA quals with a short bench. If they are full they are stronger than you’ve seen before. I’m giving Vegas credit for Joao Leme, he’s a 2006 birthyear Brazilian and is a very strong player. Of course, both San Francisco and SD Shores have had roster controversies in the past few years so that first day will be interesting for group H

That’s a feckless analogy as commuters in southern California frequently travel between OC and LA for work, school and leisure on a daily basis.

SD Shores had two Hungarians (#3 & #16) In QS only #16 played. RH plays 1/2. Fine shooter but not a game changer. SFWPC – I saw them at Futures. They looked strong. They had several ‘imported’ players. At least 2 spoke French.
Vanguard looked strong in QS. They added one or two very strong Hungarians. The way they played in QS they might challenge Newport on the first day. Group ‘A’ includes three very good teams: Newport, Vanguard, and Imperial.

Is Connor Kim playing for LA Premier? He played yesterday with Beast Boys.

Vanguard looked sharp throughout Quicksilver, steadily picking up momentum with each game. From the start, they played clean, physical polo—never doing too much, but always controlling the tempo.
They beat CCU by 3 in the third-place match, which was one of the more composed performances of the tournament. Nothing wild just smart execution, good rotations, and solid finishes. But their semifinal vs. CNAB is where things really stood out. Vanguard jumped out to a 6–1 lead at half, playing some of their best polo of the weekend. They did end up dropping it 10–9, but that first half said a lot. When they’re locked in, they can go toe-to-toe with anyone.
Joe Molina has pieced together a squad that’s clicking at the right time. They’ve got depth, IQ, and a couple of key Hungarian additions that bring strength and structure. It’s not a flashy team, but they’re tight, confident, and gritty when it matters.
Coming out of QS, Vanguard feels like a team that’s quietly trending up. If they tighten a few things and manage the big moments, they’ve got a real shot at pushing into the top 3 at JO’s.

Connor was likely just playing with BB as HW was at Newport. He’s not listed on the Beast Boys roster I referenced above and you can’t add people from other clubs after quals.

I’ll go with an abbreviated Top 10:

  1. Newport - Lost to Beast Boys in Futures by 2, playing without 3 starters.
  2. Beast Boys
  3. CCU - Solid
  4. Del Mar - Young and well coached.
  5. Mission - Young
  6. San Francisco
  7. CDM - Improving
  8. Stanford
  9. Vanguard - Not sure their JO roster looks like their Quiksilver roster.
  10. LAMO - What happened to them at Futures?

This lineup is more inline with my prediction, Newport might be missing Ohl but sounds like they have everyone else with a strong double or even triple line change with their incoming senior class. These predictions can all go upside down if we see any number of Euros that show up and make a significant impact on any team!

La Jolla United is easily a Top 20 team. They just beat Imperial and LB Shore pretty handily this past weekend.

Zones are zones. If you’re going to call for a travel ban for one zone, then it should apply to all zones.

Reading this post, it’s hard to tell whether people are more upset that kids from the Mountain Zone are going to JOs, or that their own kids’ friends made it while theirs didn’t. Let’s be honest—most people don’t mind “all-star” teams, as long as they’re are in their zone. Setup one up in another smaller zone and everyone is clutching pearls.

Not all zones are equal. There are 4 zones with 20M people within a 50 mile radius of woollett. People will drive across zone borders. An overwhelming majority of people do y know if Long Beach is in LA or OC, including Californians. If a zone can’t field a team with players from that zone, they deserve fewer allocated spots, especially in championship.

Another solution to all this nonsense is we all just boycott JO’s and take a reasonable vacation before our kids start training for high school in 2 weeks. The amount of angling, importing, strategizing, and lunacy that occurs over one dumb tournament held 3 weeks later than it needs to be is truly astounding.

Now back to crunching my bracket…
