The Dons vs Patriot game was a good one, if they had not started kind of slow the one point game would have been a W and not an L. Also LA Premier vs Vanguard was a good game!
Patriot is slowly inching their way to the top contenders.. Miles did this for years at Del Mar and is now doing it over in the OC!
Patriot is making strides as they often do in late spring and early summer. However, Mission did get them in their late game, by 5. There were a couple of close, entertaining games. There are a handful of teams that will be battling for the top 2-6 at JOs.
Final 14u placings at the Patriot Invite:
- Mission
- Patriot
- La Jolla
- La Premier
- SD Dons
- ORWP
- Vanguard
Agree with commenters who say Patriot is on the rise. Mission beat them twice (11-6 yesterday and 9-3 in the final tonight), but their wins vs La Jolla and SD Dons this weekend were noteworthy. JO’s seems up for grabs!
When will there be an update on the top 20 teams? Curious to see if any changes will be made to it after patriot games.
@Marco is the man when it comes to the Top 20 rankings. His Top 20 12u list just came out.
What are the best 14U matchups on Friday (or potentially Saturday) at San Diego Cup this weekend?
Friday shouldn’t have too many interesting matchups but there should be lots of intriguing game on Sat and Sunday. This tournament appears to have The Who’s who in the 14u division.
The Friday 14u games I’m most interested in are CCU vs Commerce and Lamorinda vs North Irvine.
NorCal has entered the chat. Looks like they tied(?) Newport 4-4 today and smoked a solid Shores 14A team 9-1.
Saw them play. They look solid. Should be an interesting Sunday!
Looks like the SD County Cup semifinals are set:
- Mission v La Jolla
- Norcal v LA Premier
Predictions? Should be two entertaining semifinal games and a great championship game. I’m going with La Jolla United over NorCal in the championship game. Both teams have overpowered their opponents.
Congratulations to La Jolla on their win!
- La Jolla
- LA Premier
- NorCal
- Mission
Both semifinals were decided by a single goal. Lots of parity down the stretch this year.
There should never be ties in any sport allowed, especially in water polo. Either do a Golden Goal or a shootout–it will take an extra 10 minutes. A tie is not ideal, especially since the tournament was 5-minute quarters.
Exactly they allow Golden Goal in advancement games already so it really isn’t that hard to do it in all games.
I agree. I wasn’t there but saw the score reported as 4-4 (unless this was an error?). A tournament with 5-minute quarters absolutely ought to allow time to at least conclude the game with a decision one way or another.
Not an error. I don’t believe SD County Cup has ever had tiebreaks for non-medal games, certainly not recently. That is just the way they roll.
Final seeding for Futures SuperFinals will be determined this weekend in SoCal. Several top teams took some uncharacteristic losses in league play due to significant players missing for a variety of reasons (illness, injury, ODP/Academy obligations), so the tournament this summer could have some high level teams seeded rather low. It will be interesting to see how it sorts itself out.
The two semi games will be a rematch of the County Cup championship game (La Jolla United and LA Premier) and the other semi is Dons (5th at County Cup) versus Patriot (underperformed at County Cup).
