Winning a medal at any level is a great time for everyone involved. The kids will be very happy and proud to receive their medals.

But better for traveling non-CA teams to experience that rather than getting crushed in Championship.

Teams can request classic route if they’d like. There also needs to be someone who want to move to championship.

Did anybody watch the game Mission vs Vanguard. It was 6-5 close match. Mission winning.
I can give you a prediction for day 2
Group M: Dons,tsunami,CDM
Group N: Mission, Newport, Stanford
Group O: Vanguard , San Clemente, SB
Group P Greenwich, North Irvine, CC united
It was a very close game. Would be interesting to have seen the same game with different refs. It seemed like the refs were taking a very hands off approach to the game.
Assuming day 2 is predictable, wouldn’t this result in Dons vs Greenwich and Mission vs Vanguard in the semifinal? (top seed vs lowest seed, 2nd seed vs 3rd seed)?
Yes those 4 teams are above the rest. I don’t think there a dark horse.
I believe it was tied after Q1, Q2, and Q3. Also tied with ~1min to go. Mission scored in transition to take lead and ultimately win. Very good play all around. Both teams had missed chances to take control, but defense & goalie play was good on both sides. Vanguard showed more varied offense than prior games. Mission was still without one of their bigger/stronger/faster players, who would have helped in what was a physical contest. Mission’s depth is an advantage. They are and should be the favorites. But don’t give them the JO medals yet…

Probably the best day 1 game will be 908 vs North Irvine.
CDM vs Temple City also has potential? Have not seen TC play this year but last year they were a solid mid pack team in Platinum.

Mission’s calendar shows 12A and 14A for Sandro Cup.
Really at a loss for why this isn’t way more popular here in Socal. Open water play is quite uniquely fun. Can anyone on here (coaches or parents) explain it? I get the fact that Sandro Cup was mid week, but being mid week actually might have been the best case scenario to avoid weekend crowds. Why isn’t there weekly waterpolo games at Dana Point, Mission Bay, and other locations all through the summer?

A lot of kids in those communities do Junior Guards. Almost every beach has a JG program which draws a lot of kids.
But the draw of open water polo is growing. King harbor just installed polo courses for summer and apparently the group has GOLS helping stream it.

Adriatic/Mediterranean are much cleaner than CA bays and much calmer than the Pacific. Really no comparison.

Coordination problem. I’ll show up if enough people are there but everyone says the same and no one shows up. Same with any pick up sport. It’s an equilibrium for empty courts and for packed courts but hard to shift between equilibria unless a lot of people randomly play or an organizer coordinates.

Quiksilver 12U finish:
1st Mission: full strength for the first full tournament in a long time (SPA Championships?). The score totals of the final was MUCH higher than I would have predicted for both teams. This is notable i think.
2nd SD Dons: full strength and firing on all cylinders all weekend. Was ahead of Mission for the whole first half of the final. Got outscored in the second half.
3rd CDM: a scrappy team that certainly shows tremendous improvement this year and ready to bloody anyone’s nose.
4th San Clemente: another scrappy squad that has found an identity and has shown they can win by something other than a shootout.
Notably Stanford finished down the ladder some. Not a big surprise since this was their second trip down to socal in so many weeks and another trip is coming up in 2 weeks for the final tournament of the competition year. A likely day 2 matchup against Mission for the N bracket coming up might also be a factor?
Also notable is Vanguard’s center not playing resulting in them sliding down the results sheet. I for one hope he is back for JOs, if he is not back will SHAQ or SD Shores wind up first in the C bracket? This also opens the door for San Clemente to get an “easy” path to be first in the O bracket!?!? Very exciting.
Of course Greenwich (not an underdog) is at the top of @Marco rankings and favored to win it all, 100% GOLS made at least one subscription sale for Quiksilver to them since they were not in attendance. Day 1 SJX will have a tough time.
Day one the excitement will surely be for 1st in C, and E brackets!! Also I pick CDM for first in the I bracket. Can’t wait.
